Hand Crafted Topiary Susa's Topiary Zoo is the premier topiary grower in the country. We are a family owned nursery located Half Moon Bay, California. We make our own topiary frames, assemble the topiaries, grow our own English Ivy, and ship your order direct from our nursery. We do not take your order and have another nursery fulfill the order. We are the real deal! When we say, "direct from grower", your topiary comes directly from us. We will custom assemble your topiary and you will receive the highest quality topiary available on the market today!

John welding the topiary frames Our topiary frames are each individually shaped and welded by hand at our nursery. The wire we use is high quality galvanized wire made in the United States. We bend the wire by hand then weld the frame together. Once the frame is constructed, we fill the frame with 100% sphagnum moss that is packed tightly into the frame. Next, the outside of the frame is completely covered with the moss. Using monofilament, we tightly and meticulously secure the moss to the entire frame. Other topiary makers do not cover the exposed frame with the sphagnum moss. They simply and quickly stuff some moss inside the frame and ship you an inferior product with exposed wire. The other topiary makers skip the most important, final, and very labor-intensive step of painstakingly wrapping the moss with monofilament. At Susa's Topiary Zoo, the monofilament is wrapped extremely tightly around each leg, ear, tail, head, and body of the topiary. We take this time consuming extra step so the finished topiary results in an incredibly life-like topiary. Another important benefit of wrapping the topiary with the monofilament is that it results in a much longer lasting topiary. The sphagnum moss will not fall out or become loose. Finally, the moss is carefully hand-trimmed with a scissors producing a very neat and clean appearance. Cute eyes and a nose are added to the topiary animal where applicable.

Living English Ivy Planted Topiaries and Preserved "Mossed" Topiaries

We handcraft two types of topiaries- Living English Ivy Topiaries and "Mossed" Topiaries.

Living English Ivy Planted Topiaries
Once the frame is constructed, we fill the frame with 100% sphagnum moss that is packed tightly into the frame. We plant beautiful English Ivy in the center body of the topiary. Next, the outside of the frame is completely covered with the moss using monofilament to tightly and meticulously cover the entire frame. Finally, the moss is carefully trimmed and the English Ivy runners are pinned to the moss. As the English Ivy grows the runners can be pinned to the moss or trimmed off. You can decide how much ivy coverage you desire on your topiary. The English Ivy topiaries are spectacular! We include 10 extra topiary pins with each planted topiary.

 

Mossed Topiaries
The mossed topiaries are filled with 100% high quality sphagnum moss. They do not need to be watered because they are not living. The mossed topiaries are great for placing on a table or in your home. They are also perfect in climates where a English Ivy topiary would not survive freezing temperatures. A mossed topiary is a fantastic way to enjoy a carefree topiary.
